If doubts regarding the regularity of the voting system for the journalist of the year are confirmed, he will ask the CJA to annull the election and to announce new competition
Željko Peratović, a freelance journalist, filed a complaint to the Supervisory Board of the Croatian Journalists’ Association, on suspicion of irregularity of election for the journalist of the year , and he made the request to the Board to set up a special working party to examine the doubts.
The journalist from Novi list Branko Mijić won the Journalist of the Year Award with 214 votes, Željko Peratović was second with 186 votes (he won the Investigative Journalist of the Year Award) and the third was Ljubica Gatarić with 110 votes, and 120 ballots were invalid.
Peratović requested to examine the register of the membership and the documentation of the secretariat in order to find out how many ballots were sent; whether former members were allowed to vote (the ones who didn’t pay the membership fee); were the ballots sent to those persons, too; was there any subsequent voting; i.e. were members who didn’t returned their ballots on time called to do that; were there any invalid ballots; was the “Book of Regulations on the Journalist of the Year Award”in accordance with legal regulations and general acts that prescribe in such cases the right to appeal, and what provision is missing in this book of regulations!
If doubts regarding the regularity of the voting system for the journalist of the year are confirmed, he will ask the CJA to annull the election and to announce new competition.
